From flat sheet to desk flex

No experience needed. If you can use scissors and glue, you can build one of these. Here is exactly what happens.

What you actually need

Three things, all of which are probably already in your house. We do not sell tool kits, because charging you for scissors you own would be daft.

• Scissors — household scissors are fine. A craft knife and cutting mat give cleaner edges on Expert kits, but they are optional.
• Craft glue — any white glue. A ₹20 tube does several kits. Avoid super glue, it warps the paper.
• A flat surface and about two hours. Put on a show. It is a screen-free, oddly relaxing way to spend an evening.

Optional but nice: a ruler or bone folder to press creases, and tweezers for the small tabs on Expert kits.

The build, step by step

01 — Unbox

A rigid flat mailer arrives with your pre-printed 300 GSM sheets and a QR card. Check the sheets are flat and the numbers are legible before you start cutting.

02 — Cut

Cut every solid line. Take your time on the outline — clean edges are most of how good the finished figure looks. Cut out all pieces before you glue anything.

03 — Score and fold

Fold every dashed line. Ours come pre-scored, so run a fingernail or ruler along the crease and it snaps to a sharp angle instead of a soft bend.

04 — Glue

Work in numerical order. Apply a thin layer to the tab, hold for ten seconds, move on. Thin glue dries fast and never warps; thick glue is the main cause of a soggy build.

05 — Display

Let it set for an hour before handling properly. Then put it on a desk or shelf — and tag @cultxone for 50% off your next kit.

Reading the sheet

Five things that make it look professional

• Colour the cut edges with a marker. The white paper core shows on every cut edge. Running a matching marker along the edges before gluing makes the finished figure look twice as expensive. Biggest upgrade for zero cost.
• Cut just inside the line, not on it. Cutting on the printed line leaves a faint dark rim. Cutting a hair inside removes it entirely, and the panels still meet cleanly.
• Fold before you cut where you can. Scoring while the sheet is still large gives you more to hold on to.
• Use less glue than feels right. A thin film on the tab only. Excess glue squeezes out at the seam, dries shiny and buckles the paper.
• Build the head last. It has the most visible detail and the tightest angles — by then your technique is dialled in.
